Kingitanga
On the 11 November 1994 a meeting was held at the Kohanga Reo Trust in Wellington and was attended by all Tainui - Waikato Maori and the late Dame Te Atairangikaahu.
It was at this meeting Dame Te Ata reaffirmed the name 'Waikato Ki Roto o Poneke' for the roopu with the purpose of gathering into it's fold, all Maori descendants from Tainui waka living in Wellington and under the umbrella of the Maori King Movement. The "Waikato" in our name refers to the awa which is of special significance to all iwi from Tainui waka. Accordingly our roopu is inclusive of all iwi fromTainui waka.
